Paris-based photographer and videographer Emma Cortijo has been drawn to image-making since her teenage years, developing a professional practice from 2018 onward across portrait, fashion, music, and sport photography.

Photography, for me, has always been about movement, whether it's the energy of a live stage or the quiet strength of a woman in front of my lens.

Nikon gave me the freedom to explore video at my own pace, without ever having to choose between photography and everything else I wanted to create.

Emma Cortijo

At the heart of Emma Cortijo's practice is a sustained commitment to photographing women, creating space where her subjects feel genuinely seen, supported, and safe. For several years, surrounding herself with a community of women and placing them at the center of her work has shaped not only the subjects she chooses but the way she approaches every shoot. That sense of trust and creative safety, she believes, is what allows her work to feel honest rather than constructed. Her relationship with Nikon grew naturally from a desire to expand into video without stepping away from photography. Seeking a mirrorless camera that would let her explore the two disciplines at her own pace, she found in the Nikon Z system a tool that matched her working rhythm. Today, she shoots with the Nikon Z6II and Nikon Zf, pairing them with the 24-120mm f/4 and 35mm f/1.8 depending on the demands of the moment. The versatility of the Nikon Z series allows her to move fluidly between a fashion portrait and a live performance without compromising on image quality or creative intention.
